A special lesson bringing history beyond the pages of textbooks and closer to every Giang Bien student!
In accordance with Plan No. 08/SCIR dated August 6, 2026, issued by the Steering Committee for the Implementation of Resolution 57 and Project 06, concerning a 100-day action programme to carry out key digital transformation tasks in Viet Hung Ward, the Viet Hung Ward People’s Committee, in collaboration with Giang Bien Secondary School, organised a livestream entitled “Tracing Our Local History – Every Historic Site, a Lesson.”
Time: 8:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2026
Venue: Quan Tinh Confucian Shrine, Viet Hung Ward, Hanoi
Format: Livestream on the Viet Hung Ward Facebook Page.
The programme was attended by representatives of the leadership of the Culture and Social Affairs Division; the Subcommittee for the Management of Quan Tinh Communal House, Pagoda, and Confucian Shrine; the leadership team of Giang Bien Secondary School; and the school’s Grade 8 students.
Without a blackboard or chalk, today’s classroom took shape among the communal house, pagoda, stone steles, and cultural surroundings of the local community.
At the memorial stele commemorating a historical event, students listened to accounts of the losses and sacrifices experienced by the local community during wartime. These stories deepened their appreciation of peace and helped them understand why places bearing witness to history must be preserved.
At Quan Tinh Communal House, students explored the community’s history through stories, images, and cultural traces connected to local life.
At Thai Linh Quan Tu Pagoda, stone steles and historical dates preserved over time became special “pages of a book.” They helped students understand that exploring history sometimes begins with careful observation, asking questions, and interpreting traces of the past.
At the Confucian Shrine, the lesson took a reflective turn, focusing on the tradition of learning, the role of teachers, and students’ aspirations. The example of the revered educator Chu Van An recalled the nation’s tradition of respecting teachers, valuing their teachings, and cherishing learning. It also prompted a simple yet meaningful question in every student’s mind:
How should we study and develop our characters to honour the traditions passed down by our ancestors?
Through the livestream, stories about these historic sites were brought into the digital space. Local history could thus be experienced not only at the places where it is preserved but also shared widely with the community. Online viewers joined in by answering questions and sharing their reflections, creating an open, accessible, and highly interactive learning environment.
Beyond knowledge of the historic sites, the journey left students with a stronger sense of responsibility for preserving heritage. Each student was reminded that this responsibility begins with small actions: treating artefacts with care, protecting the surroundings, behaving respectfully, and becoming “young tour guides” who share stories of local history with friends and family.
One journey – four destinations.
One lesson – many things to learn.
Each return to our heritage deepens our understanding of and love for our homeland.
From memories of war to community history, and from cultural traces to the tradition of learning, each destination offered a new perspective on our homeland and a lesson for the present.
Understanding the past is about more than remembering what has gone before. It helps us appreciate the present, live more responsibly, and work together to preserve valuable traditions for future generations!
