As part of the school’s professional development programme, on 27 October 2026, Ms. Nguyen Minh Hang conducted a specialist lesson in Class 6A3: Period 29 – Unit 3: Love and Sharing, Text 2: The First Cold Winds of the Season (Gió lạnh đầu mùa) by Thach Lam. The lesson’s core objectives were to help students identify and analyse character traits and appreciate the distinctive qualities of Thach Lam’s short fiction: its gentle, poetic style and subtle portrayal of emotions.
A highlight from the outset was the student-led warm-up. With confidence and initiative, the students introduced their classmates to the lesson, clearly demonstrating their active role in the learning process.
With the teacher’s guidance and well-structured worksheets, students independently explored the changes in Sơn’s emotions. They concluded that Sơn is a kind-hearted, affectionate boy who also displays the carefree nature and innocence characteristic of childhood.
A key highlight was an activity in which students matched entries in a table comparing Hiên with the Little Match Girl. Students quickly identified similarities and differences between the two characters, deepening their appreciation of the value of love and sharing.
In the “Sprouts – A Tree of Love” activity, each student drew personal lessons about compassion, caring for others and sharing with those around them. Their small “Sprouts of Love” came together to form a “Tree of Love”, spreading the message: “Give love – receive sincerity in return.” The lesson concluded with a lively game, “Raise Your Hand to Unlock Memories”, which helped students consolidate their knowledge in an enjoyable, relaxed way.
Immediately after the lesson, the school leadership and the subject department held a post-lesson review in the spirit of lesson study. Focusing on observations of students’ learning processes, participants engaged in a lively discussion of the lesson’s strengths and effectiveness.
The specialist lesson contributed to innovation in teaching methods that encourage students’ active participation and initiative, while also demonstrating the dedication and creativity of Giang Bien Secondary School’s teachers. Through such efforts, each Literature lesson becomes an emotionally engaging journey of discovery, helping students deepen their love of literature, live with compassion and a willingness to share, and develop a comprehensive range of competencies.
